Online Safety
Information for Parents
Technology and the Internet can be fantastic. Our children are surrounded by this technology which is why Online safety is a critical issue for primary aged children. The internet has become an integral part of their lives. While the internet provides a vast range of educational and entertainment opportunities, it also presents a significant danger to children who may encounter inappropriate content.
Using technology and the Internet well is about using it safely and responsibly. Things can go wrong by accident or if behaviour isn’t sensible or respectful. Inappropriate online usage can have a lasting effect on children's lives, affecting their mental and emotional wellbeing, academic performance, and social relationships.
Therefore, it is crucial for parents, caregivers, and teachers to inform children on the importance of safe online practices and closely monitor their internet usage to protect them from potential harm. As a school we aim to educate, not to stop our young people from using technology but to ensure that they have the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to successfully navigate themselves through the online world safely, so they become good digital citizens.
